About Us

We are a small group of Architecture students participating in Clay Building studies at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. Our work is to research, document and insert clay buildings in Germany.

Our key objective is to identify and classify different clay buildings in Germany. Our intention is to create a German map of all clay buildings and be the source of all clay buildings in Germany.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further information or enquiries.

The Website
On the home page you can get a high level overview of the different styles of clay buildings in Germany. This map is based on real buildings and will grow over time.

In the map page, you will be able to view a map a large map of Germany and surrounding neighbours. In the bottom menu bar, there are tools, which can help you navigate the map. The Construction tab allows you to select and remove different clay building styles. The building styles are colour coded and specific to each clay building style. On the map you can click on the building of your choice and select for more information, such as year, building type, location, damages and pictures.

You can filter your search further by entering the years when the building was built.

The status button allows you to filter the buildings, which are heritage listed.

For a more detailed explanation of the types of clay can be found in the menu bar ‘Clay Styles’. Here you will be able to select the 5 key clay building styles; Half-timber with earth, lump, rammed earth, cob and adobe.

The glossary is also available and it to assist with any technical terminologies.

Finally, we have a video page of clay buildings.
